I’ve had an idea for a tumblr based on ICE’s Middle-Earth Roleplaying for a couple of weeks and providence (via Mithril Miniatures) has sent me a sign.

How many companies are this awesome? To make a miniature based on the now-defunct product line of another company, when that character features in only one supplement, and that released in 1988!

I love ICE’s Far Harad supplement, so much so that I carry it around in .pdf form on my iPad, even now.

Mithril Miniatures outdid themselves with this one and even though I don’t game or paint miniatures any more, I just had to have it.

Ever since I read Unfinished Tales in seventh grade, the Istari have been my favorite Tolkien characters, even before ICE’s Middle-Earth CCG. I remember reading (in Scrye, of all places — those were the days!) about the upcoming release of Middle-Earth: The Wizards and thinking, “Wait, you get to play one of the Wizards? So we’re designing card games for me now?”

I always did think Magic: the Gathering was kind of lame. But together or alone, ICE’s Middle-Earth Roleplaying and their CCG were both superlative, the best designed gaming products of their time. And the later was perfect enough to allow you to play an Istar.

Anyway, hooray for Mithril, this mini brings back the golden days of the 90’s for me.
